GRICE is a singer-songwriter, musician, performer and producer, born and evolved in South London and currently based in the Southwest of England. His music is a restless and shimmering cocktail of electro-acoustic glitch, art rock and avant-pop synthesis, his songs are crafted and passionate.
The new 12-track album alexandrine, is produced by GRICE and features Richard Barbieri (Porcupine Tree, Japan, Hogarth & Barbieri) on keyboards, synthesisers and as co-producer on a number of tracks.
Alexandrine has been mixed by Steve Jansen (Japan, Rain Tree Crow) who also lends his unique percussive input, tonalities and treatments.
The album features musical contributions from a unique line-up, including Hossam Ramzy on percussion (Led Zeppelin, Peter Gabriel), Italian freeform trumpet player Luca Calabrese, BJ Cole on pedal steel guitar (Felt, T-Rex), Suzanne Barbieri (vocals) and violinist Steve Bingham (No-Man). The core band comprises of Al Swainger on bass and 05Ric on drums (Gavin Harrison).
Grice is a songwriter who transcends boundaries and genres, his works showcase his ability to perform shimmering musical alchemy.
Bands that GRICE has formed and fronted include classy brit-pop flavoured acts Laugh like A Madman, The burning martyrs, The Martyrs, SWANSTON and the avant-garde outfit hungersleep which earned him the title of 'cocktail punk'.
[propeller] - The first official release from the hungersleep label. The album is produced by Lee Fletcher (Unsung productions) recorded at Sound Gallery studios and on location in Milan and Innsbruck. The songs are composed, performed and co-produced/arranged by GRICE (Lead vocals, acoustic & electric guitars, Tzouras, Kora, keys, programming and Virtual Vincenzo) and features musical contributions from the likes of BJ Cole (Elton John, Sylvian, Depeche Mode), Markus Reuter, Raphael Ravenscroft (Marvin Gaye, Pink Floyd), Luca Calabrese, Fred Ehresmann and MORE.
