'Siobhan McCrudden really does have a voice of great intensity and beauty' - NewSoundWales
'Absolutely beautiful, just stunning, the voice is something else' - Adam Walton, BBC Radio Wales
'There is a clear debt in Siobhan's sound to early Joni Mitchell albums, and unconsciously mirroring the small clubs and venues where Mitchell honed her craft, her first live performances were in the coffee house circuit of New York. There is also a definite familiarity with late sixties British folk bands such as Fairport Convention and Pentangle in her cultural hinterland’ From the Margin, First Impression
Noted as ‘One to watch’ by NewSoundWales, Siobhan's voice has been described as ‘fragile, pure and hugely distinctive’. Cardiff-based, singer songwriter Siobhan McCrudden, crafts songs of intensity and sweetness, recounting personal stories whilst reflecting a vivid fascination with dark folk tales and superstitions. Raised in London to parents with Scottish and Irish roots her vocal leanings and music reflect early memories of traditional folk musicians, singers and fiddle players standing round the fire place at family gatherings and a hunger for connection to those emotive beginnings.
Siobhan’s early performances found her on the coffee house circuit of New York. From these beginnings she went on to play larger gigs both in America and at home, performing at festivals and folk clubs. Siobhan has had radio play on Cardiff Radio and on BBC Wales through BBC Introducing's Adam Walton.
Her first single ‘The Mermaid in Your Glass’, was part of the top 10 fresh favourites on Fresh On The Net (Tom Robinson) and has recently had airplay on BBC Radio Wales (Bethan Elfyn), Radio Cardiff, newsoundwales, The Folk Pilot, CuillinFM, PhonicFM, The Blackout Radio show, Lonely Oak Radio, SourceFM, Symfozone Radio and Spotify playlists.
Siobhan McCrudden’s debut album ‘Icarus Girl’ is a hauntingly nostalgic and elemental set of alluring narratives and exquisitely melancholic songs that defy any one particular genre and entrance the listener through their spellbinding beauty. The album is carefully arranged and produced by acclaimed artrock musician GRICE who has infused the songs with his subtle yet distinctive instrumentation, guitars, keys, string arrangements, programming and additional vocals.
The result is something beautifully incandescent and timeless.
The album also features musical contributions by a few select musicians including Steve Bingham (No-Man, Judy Dyble) on violin, Al Swainger (bass) Brenda Stewart (viola), Glen Hawkins (mandolin) and Jack Lawrence (autoharp) who complete the blend bringing an understated warmth and intricacy to the album, showcasing its haunted folk-noir sound.
